Pittsboro NC is a small, quiet, little Southern town located about 35 miles west of Raleigh and 17 miles south of Chapel Hill.
Pittsboro is very "quaint." It has a Mayberry feel to with its historic homes and buildings, Downtown Pittsboro has antique shops and even a general store.
The Pittsboro General Store is a must see. You'll need to buy a Green Chili Burrito. There have been over 18,000 sold - for good reason! The General Store also has live music Thursday through Saturday.
For recreation, the Haw River is a couple miles from downtown Pittsboro, where you can fish or kayak. Jordan Lake is close by and provides all sorts of summer activities, including swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, and hiking.
The Carnivore Preservation Trust is in Pittsboro. It has over 140 animals representing 11 species of threatened and endangered carnivores from around the world. They have tigers, spotted leopards, snow leopards, jaguars, ocelots, Asian bearcats, and more. Most are rescue animals and it's very interesting.
