Burning Coal Theatre Company is a professional theater company based in Raleigh. They're innovative, sharp, and very talented. The Burning Coal performances are at the Murphy School Auditorium in the Historic Oakwood district. The auditorium has been renamed the Meymandi Theatre at the Murphy School.
The Burning Coal Company puts on plays in a wide range of styles - from contemporary to Shakespeare. They're an extremely versatile group of actors.
Every Burning Coal production we've been to has been great. The venue is intimate so you feel as if you are semi-involved in the lives of the actors. The scenery is often minimal but so well crafted that your mind's eye fills in all the details.
The auditorium is also a very cool venue. The lobby is large enough for elbow room and enjoying the historic feel of the building. There's ample, non-crowed seating on the ground floor. We always try for the front row as you are right next to the actors and can feel the energy. There's extra seating in the balcony and some people love that.
Burning Coal has a variety of classes in acting, directing, playwriting, and Shakespeare along with an robust outreach program.
Burning Coal Theater will always deliver amazing talent delivered in a unique and intimate setting. This is a really great evening that is very affordable. We enjoy their performances a lot!
