Raleigh Entertainment/Transportation
The R-Line

Description, Video, Review & Recommendations

Downtown Raleigh has a super FREE bus service called The R-Line. It runs through the Central Business District in Downtown Raleigh and is set up to connect residents and visitors to shops, restaurants, entertainment venues and parking.

The buses look different than the regular city buses. The R-Line buses are green and blue which is a nod to their "green" environmentally hybrid electric friendliness. The buses are nice and clean. They have air-conditioning, plasma TVs and comfy seats. They are wheelchair accessible, and have Free WiFi.

The R-Line only stops at designated R-Line stops on a route that runs counter-clockwise through downtown. There are two buses that travel cover the 15-20 minute route.

The R-Line route has15 stops during the day and 19 stops after 6:30 p.m. It continuously runs from the southern points of the Raleigh Convention Center and Performing Arts Center to the northernmost point of Seaboard Station on Peace Street.

You can use the R-Line in so many great ways. If you are downtown you can just hop on it and go some of the great restaurants in downtown Raleigh or the Glenwood South area. Or, if you want to enjoy the activities of downtown Raleigh you can park in one place and go all over - not worrying about the car.

Let's say you want to go to dinner and see a performance at the Progress Energy Center . You can start by having a martini in Glenwood South, get on the R-Line and go around and have a super incredible meal at Poole's Diner then back on the bus to the play and maybe afterwards go have dessert over in City Market .

This is also a great way to get a group together and enjoy a night out, a celebration, a pub crawl, a festival, or Beer Fest.

For people visiting Raleigh for Conventions, it's a perfect way to get around downtown and enjoy all we have to offer. If you're moving to Raleigh, hop on and off the R-Line and see downtown Raleigh.

There is a great free app for smart phones - look up R-Line on wherever you get apps. It follows the buses and let you see where they are in real time (give or take 5 minutes.)

If you are in downtown Raleigh and want to get around easily, take advantage of this great service and get a free ride on the R-Line!

Please always use a designated driver or a cab to get you home or back to your Raleigh hotel if you have a couple of drinks.

R-Line Schedule:
Mon-Wed Hours: 7:00 AM - 11:00 PM
Thu-Sat Hours: 7:00 AM - 2:15 AM
Sun Hours: 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The R-Line Map

Great stops along the R-Line we like to recommend are Sitti , Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts , and Raleigh Convention Center.
