The Tobacco Farm Life Museum is located in Kenly, NC., an hour southeast of Raleigh.
The Farm Life Museum is all about the cultural heritage of Eastern North Carolina farm life. The museum was started by a group of local families who wanted to preserve the history of Eastern North Carolina tobacco farmers.
The museum is restored to look like life during the Great Depression. It has a large collection of items that are not just about tobacco, but what life was like for the rural family in North Carolina in the early 1900's.
The exhibits have things dealing with the life of tobacco farmers but also medical care, education, home life, religion, etc.
The tour is self-guided and the staff extremely friendly. They have a real dedication to the museum. They know the history of the area well and can give you great family stories of "back then." It is fascinating to listen to them.
This museum is a picture of the opposite side of the Duke Tobacco wealth and shows that life was hard on many of the Eastern North Carolina Tobacco farms. It is worth the drive.
