Lake Johnson is a beautiful lake right in Raleigh just down from NC State University. It has a 150+ acre lake and another 300+ acres around the lake. It is one of our favorites! It is so incredibly scenic.
Lake Johnson has wonderful paved greenway trails and some unpaved trails. It is great in the evening to take a stroll along the paths and across the bridge.
It's popular with joggers, walkers, and bikers. The paths are shaded so even on hot days it is a nice place to get some exercise.
Lake Johnson is great for fishing - if you don't have fishing gear they have rods and reels you can check out for free.
You can fish from the boardwalk or bring your own boat - if you don't have a boat you can rent one and enjoy the whole day on the lake. They rent Jon Boats, canoes/kayaks, and pedal boats.
Lake Johnson has a great Waterfront Center that you can rent for weddings, meetings, whatever. There is usually something going on there! It has rocking chairs that are fun to sit in and just watch people, boats, and the lake.
It's really wonderful to have this nice of a facility right in the city. It's great place to jog or just walk through and enjoy the scenery.
