Gravey is a great authentic Raleigh Italian Restaurant. I love the name "Gravy" having heard New York Italian friends talk about their mama's "gravy (sauce)." Fits perfect!
Gravy has a familiar and creative pallet of Italian tastes! The food ranges from richly sauced and cheese-blessed Italian classics, like eggplant pie and gnocchi, to bright fresh salads and starters that are perfect for a light meal.
We enjoy the Salami Board to start. It has a good variety of meats and cheeses. The risotto balls, gnocchi and lasagna are all spectacular. The bar is well-stocked with local beers and great wines.
Erin goes for the Eggplant Pie. It's flavorful and delicate, an excellent dish. Ed is a fan of the Lasagna with meat filling which he rates as fantastic.
You have to try the Family Gravy for wonderful traditional flavors that make Italian food feel warm and homey. It's got in-house-made pasta, meatballs, spicy and sweet sausage, braised beef short rib, and house-made ricotta - YEAH! For vegetarians there are several choices that are hearty and tasty. The bread and rolls are always baked fresh and super garlicky.
Save room for dessert as there's a yummy selection - from the deep rich chocolate torte to light and delicate panna cotta with all kinds of sweet wonderfulness in between.
Try Gravy for a great Raleigh brunch option on Sunday. They have a great menu going for that - make reservations.
The space is finished with an exposed brick wall with local art hanging on it - it has a real Raleigh feel to it. It's small and bright and tends to get crowded and energetic. Downstairs has the wine cellar that offers an intimate and quiet atmosphere that's completely different than the energetic upstairs.
