Jibarra, pronounced "jih-BAR-uh," is a Mexican restaurant in Raleigh but not the typical Mexican cuisine one thinks of. Jibarra has a new, contemporary approach to Mexican cuisine.
Set in a former 1912 train depot, Jibarra has a casual/hip Latin atmosphere. It's a high-energy place with a Tequila Tower in the center that showcases all their top-shelf tequilas.
Their menu is a fantastic modern tribute to Mexican cuisine. Jibarra has some amazing dishes you will not find anywhere else.
For instance the guacamole - at Jibarra there is an array of guacamoles to choose from. Go for the four guacamole sampler to give yourself an idea of all the flavors possible.
Other great flavor treats are their Cochinita Pibil, any of their Ceviches, and any dish with Mole. Other great dishes are the salmon tacos, duck tostadas, and the Pork Osso Bucco with a yucca mash that is incredible.
Their brunch menu is amazing. For $18, you get coffee, fruit, an entree, and dessert. With that you can order a variety of mimosas (the guava mimosa is divine).
The drinks at Jibarra are also incredible. The blood orange margarita top with a beautiful purple hibiscus is stunning. Equally yummy is the Chipotle-Mango or cucumber margarita.
The drinks are intricate, and clever. For example, they roast their own peppers for the Bloody Mary. It's these little things and extra effort that make them stand out.
Jabarra's is definably worth a visit. It is a modern take on Mexican with a twist.
If you are looking for a one of a kind Raleigh restaurant - Jibarra would be it. Hip, fun, innovative - awesome!
