Sono is a Japanese restaurant in downtown Raleigh. It is chic and hip with red and black decor with a classy attitude about it. The food is fabulous and you'll be impressed with the quality and variety of the fish available.
If you like sushi - this is a great place. They have a special roll combination which comes with your choice of two special rolls. Our favorite is the Victorian roll. It is super great with spicy crab, soft-shell crab, and avocado.
Sono has two rolls they are famous for - Screaming 'O' and the "G Spot". Although the name are a tad campy they're great.
Sono's main entrees are created with well balanced and sometime surprising flavor combinations. Particularly good are the duck breast and the Donkatsu (port loin).
We love the fact that Sono has 'real' wasabi. It is grated from the root rather than the powder and water. Wonderfull!
It's akin to fresh herbs vs. dried herbs - fresh makes all the difference.
The one challenge for Sono is the service. It's either super, super good or terrible. You take your chances with that.
A few quick notes.
• On Monday nights they have a 4 course dinner special for only $25. It's excellent.
• On Tuesday night and they have half priced bottles of wine.
• They let you taste the wine before you order the bottle - classy.
• Make sure to have a reservation.
• It's smart to use their complementary valet parking or you'll have a bit of a hike.
Sono has delicious fresh food that is always prepared well and plated so beautifully. There servings are large so be prepared for a lot of food - very good food.

Driving Directions: Sono is located at 319 Fayetteville St.#101 in the Hudson condo building. From I-440 exit East on Wade Ave; continue onto Wade Ave; Continue onto Capital Blvd/Downtown Blvd; Continue onto N Dawson St. Turn left onto W Martin St; turn right at the 3rd cross street onto Fayetteville St; Sono will be on the left.
